The Power of Slowing Down

Do you ever feel like your life is moving forward at a million miles an hour?
In a world that is growing increasingly faster, it is normal to feel like you are struggling to keep up.
In conversations and content I have consumed this week, there have been reminders that sometimes slowing down is what we need to move forward.
Today, I want to discuss how and why you should start slowing down to regain clarity and find renewed momentum.
đWhy You Should Slow Down
If you feel like there are parts of your life where you have lost control, then thatâs a sign to slow down.
If this sounds like you, it could be that youâre an entrepreneur grappling with a business that isnât quite functioning in the way you want it to. Or maybe you feel undervalued at work, and want to consider your next steps.
The key indicator is control, and if you donât have that, it should be the sign you need to slow down.
đ˘Ways to Take it Slow
Here are some ways of slowing down that have always helped me to regain a sense of control:
- Dedicate time for journaling: dedicate time in your day to working through your thoughts on paper. The process of writing down how to regain control can have powerful qualities.
- Get into nature: ideally, go tech-free, and embrace the calm of nature. It can be great to walk with others to talk through challenges and hear new perspectives.
- Take a break; whether that is a holiday away from work, or time away from whatever is causing stress, set a realistic amount of time to step away. This has the power to help you take a step back from the challenge.
đKnowing When to Let Go
When we take steps to slow down, it might be that we realise the only way to freedom is letting go of what has been causing us stress.
The truth is that often we know deep down when something canât be fixed. Whether thatâs a job no longer providing satisfaction, or your business no longer being what you intended, there will be a part of you that understands this.
When we slow down, these beliefs may grow stronger, meaning the test is whether you can be brave enough to cut the tie and rebuild.
đˇââď¸Build It Better
If you decided to restart, or even if you know how to make the situation better after slowing down, the key is taking those steps.
Slowing down loses its value when we return exactly to operating in the ways that were causing overload.
Ensure that any time you have taken has clear steps you need to take to make the improvements you need for a better quality of life.
đClosing Thoughts
In a fast-paced world, slowing down can be one of the scariest challenges we tackle.
I honestly believe that as the world continues to speed up, there will be extreme value in the people who understand the importance of slowing down.
If you are someone who wants to explore ways of slowing down, or have experiences on this matter, Iâd love to hear from you. So please drop me a message.
