Unboxing the Kindle Colorsoft & First Impressions

Unboxing the Kindle Colorsoft & First Impressions

October continues to be my month of reading.

With that in mind, my online algorithms were throwing the latest Kindle releases my way, and I thought to myself, why not try the new Kindle Colorsoft?

When this product first came out, I couldn’t work out if adding colour to a Kindle was genius or a little bit pointless.

Today, I want to talk about my unboxing experience and first impressions of this product, which is largely in comparison to my Kindle Paperwhite 11th Generation.

🎁 Unboxing the Colorsoft

As with my first Kindle experience, the unboxing is a seamless process.

It’s become an expected quality that modern technology should provide an easy unboxing process. But it shows how important that is when you come up against a product that is awkward to unbox or set up.

The unboxing was super easy, with everything being a simple peel-away to reveal the Kindle with the colour effect.

The setup of my account was also easy, either linking the Kindle to your phone or manually entering your Amazon details. Within moments, the Colorsoft was populated with my account's library, now in full colour.

📚First Impressions

From my initial use of the Kindle Colorsoft, I would say there are two immediate standouts:

  1. Speed: Compared against my 11th-generation Kindle Paperwhite, the latest Colorsoft is noticeably faster and removes some of the clunky feeling I sometimes notice with my original Paperwhite.
  2. Stunning Colours: Without trying to sound too obvious, the big positive for me are the colours that come through. My library of books looks great, and the Colorsoft really comes into its elements when looking at cookbooks and graphic novels.

On the other hand, there are three points which I feel everyone should know about the Colorsoft before buying:

  1. The Cost: A Kindle Colorsoft is $249.99, compared to a black & white Kindle Paperwhite at $159.99, so this won’t be for everyone.
  2. It’s Not Glossy Colour: I had been expecting the colour to feel more glossy, like a tablet; however expect this to be a gloss-less colour.
  3. Battery Life: A Kindle Colorsoft has an 8-week battery life, compared to the Kindle Paperwhite’s 12 weeks, so worth knowing this 4-week difference.

💭Closing Thoughts

My initial thoughts are that I’ve definitely been impressed by the Colorsoft. It’s faster, modern, and having the benefit of a colour screen is really starting to grow on me.

But, I’m still not fully convinced whether this upgrade is right for someone like me, who was on an 11th-generation Kindle Paperwhite. I’m going to spend this week fully testing the Colorsoft, so make sure to check back in next week for the full review.
